When you sweat and strain in your apartment fitness center, there is nothing like seeing the fruits of your labor. And if you’ve been working hard on the treadmill, why not test your endurance by participating Evanston’s annual Run for Walk. Initially titled as ‘Walk for Randy,’ Run for Walk is a fun fitness event for Evanston residents and Northwestern students alike.
Run for Walk was created to honor the former Northwestern football coach late Randy Walker- whose favorite hobby was walking around NU campus and Evanston with his wife Tammy and his dog Magic. This year, the race is all set to be held on July 29th and registration is currently open online.
The inaugural Run for Walk will feature a 5K family run along 4.1 miles of tree-lined streets in Evanston, as well as the lakefront of Northwestern Campus. After running along the lakefront, racers will then finish the race at Ryan Field. What’s more, racers can watch themselves cross the finish line on the video board at the stadium.
Registration can be completed online and cost $35 per racer. However, if you are a student at Northwestern, you only have to pay $20. Once you register, you will be given a ticket to the home football game and a short-sleeve Under Armour t-shirt.
So next time you’re sweating and panting on the treadmill at your apartment fitness center, show off the fruits of your labor by coming out and running for a good cause at the inaugural Run for Walk.
